Which do you prefer? Biographies written about someone? Or Autobiographies written by the actual person (and/or ghost-writer)?

I am so torn by this. I guess it would depend on the person the book is written about. Take Palin’s new book, now I know I am not a fan of hers, and I am not even a Republican, but with her being so controversial and such a subject of ridicule, you know that if you read her book the entire purpose of the book would be fluff and bias. Of course, that would be the same for anyone in the controversial spotlight I suppose.

With that said, my favorite book growing up that was autobiographical was “All Creatures Great And Small by James Herriot”. (Plug plug plug, a must read if you are an animal lover) No one else could have told his story but him.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is it just depends.

I agree, it really depends on what you’re looking for, and how the document is done.

Interesting thoughts on this and the Palin is a brilliant example of reading a book by someone you wouldnt normally like or touch but reading it because the subject matter is so interesting.

Haha ok maybe I’d read Palin’s book but only standing up in the book store so I didn’t have to spend the money on it. :O)

Thanks for the reminder about Herriot. I’ve got a real animal lover for a stepdaughter. . .I think I’ll have to recommend this to her!

I really love All Creatures Great and Small on television, I started watching it as it’s on afternoons and now I just need to get the books so badly!

The question left me torn too – in fact I think I ducked out of answering it.
